Sometimes you get a Discord DM that makes you stop for a second. Maybe someone sends you free Nitro. Maybe a server asks you to verify your account. Or perhaps a friend suddenly sends a link with a message like, “Is this you?”
Some of these messages look convincing because they copy things Discord already uses, such as Nitro gifts, QR logins, bots, and account notifications. That is what makes Discord scams tricky. The message may look familiar, but the action it asks you to take can put your account at risk.

Discord Nitro scams are one of the most common ones you can encounter. They usually fall into your DM, or you may also see some in big communities as well,
Free Nitro is probably one of the easiest Discord scam messages to believe because Nitro gifts are real.
Discord lets users gift Nitro, and it also runs legitimate promotions and trials. The problem starts when scammers copy that idea and send fake offers that lead somewhere else.
A Discord Nitro scam may tell you to click a strange link, scan a QR code, download a file, or sign in on another website before you can claim the reward.

A QR code may look harmless. On Discord, though, QR codes can be used to log into an account.
That makes the Discord QR code scam especially dangerous. A scammer may tell you the QR code is for verification, Nitro, or access to a private server. Once you scan it, Discord may ask you to approve a login.
If you did not start that login yourself, do not approve it.
Discord says that an unauthorized QR login can give another person access to your account even if they do not know your password. If you already approved one, change your Discord password immediately. Discord says this invalidates the current account token and logs other devices out.
A Discord phishing message usually tries to get you onto a website that looks like Discord.
The page may copy the logo, colors, login form, and general layout very closely. At first glance, you may not notice anything wrong.
Check the web address before typing anything. Fake pages often use misspelled domains, extra words, or similar-looking letters. A padlock symbol does not mean the website belongs to Discord.

Fake verification bots and support scams are also very common in the Discord community. They are some of the most encountered Discord scams.
Verification bots are common on Discord servers, so seeing one is not unusual. That familiarity is exactly what scammers can abuse.
A fake verification bot may send you to another website, ask for permissions you do not understand, or tell you to run a command on your computer.
Verification should not require your Discord password or an unexpected QR login. If something feels excessive for a simple server check, stop there.
You can also open User Settings > Authorized Apps and remove apps you do not recognize.
One common Discord support scam starts with a worrying message.
Someone may tell you, “I accidentally reported your account,” then say you need to contact a Discord employee before your account gets banned. The next account may look official and may even use Discord branding.
Discord does send Official Messages, but these are clearly marked with an OFFICIAL badge and cannot be replied to. Discord also says it will never ask you for your password or account token.
So if someone claiming to be Discord support asks for sensitive account information in a normal DM, do not give it to them.

Sometimes the scam looks much more casual.
Someone may ask you to test their game, download a mod, or open a file they supposedly made. The file may actually contain malware designed to steal information from your device.
A token grabber targets the account token connected to your Discord session. In simple terms, that token tells Discord that you are already logged in. If an attacker steals it, they may be able to use your session without knowing your password.
Discord warns users not to run unknown programs or code. If you think your account token may have been stolen, resetting your Discord password creates a new token.
A Discord server can feel trustworthy because you recognize the name, moderators, or people inside it. That does not mean every message posted there is safe.
A compromised moderator or member may post fake announcements, verification links, or giveaways. A hacked friend's account may also start sending strange DMs without the owner realizing it straight away.
If someone you know suddenly sends you a suspicious Nitro link, game download, or login request, contact them somewhere else first. This kind of account takeover often spreads because people trust the account rather than the message.
What you should do depends on how far you've gone.
If you reused the same password somewhere else, change it there too. Start with your email account because losing access to your email can make account recovery much harder.
If you spot a scam message, you can report it directly inside Discord.
On desktop, right-click the message and choose Report Message. On mobile, press and hold the message and select the reporting option. If the scam appeared inside a server, you can also tell the moderators.
